The famous Bordeaux brand makes its debut at sailing’s most prestigious international event.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA and the America’s Cup are pleased to announce Mouton Cadet as the Official Wine of the 35th America’s Cup, the prestigious sailing competition taking place in Bermuda in May and June, 2017. The eyes of the world will turn to Bermuda’s iconic Great Sound where the best sailors on the fastest boats will battle for the oldest trophy in international sport, the America’s Cup.
Hugues Lechanoine, Managing Director of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, commented: “I am thrilled that Mouton Cadet, the worldwide Bordeaux brand, has entered this new partnership with the America’s Cup, the oldest and most prestigious sailing event. We are both international brands with a strong history, ours dating back to 1853. But first of all, we both rely on team spirit as a means to achieving the best results – whether making high quality wines or steering a race boat.”

Mouton Cadet was created by the late Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902 – 1988). His goal was to market high-quality wine to a world of burgeoning quality-conscious, wine consumers, broadening the market substantially for Bordeaux wines. Baron Philippe ushered in a new era of winemaking and his innovations and ideas continue to reverberate across the wine industry. He would have felt quite at home with the worldwide roster of business and industry tycoons that America’s Cup has smitten.
Founded in 1851, the most famous sailing trophy in the world has likewise managed to drive new interest in the sport whilst remaining true to its origins. Sir Russell Coutts, CEO of the America’s Cup and a five-time winner of the prestigious trophy, says: “We are proud to have Mouton Cadet as our partner within the America’s Cup. Both Mouton Cadet and the America’s Cup are leading brands, striving towards excellence at all levels. Profoundly attached to traditions, Mouton Cadet and the America’s Cup also possess an innovative spirit that guides us to always look beyond and expand our audiences globally”.
Mouton Cadet will be the exclusive wine served during the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series in Fukuoka, in all official America’s Cup outlets and will be on sale in selected shops around the world promoting the America’s Cup. This includes Bermuda, home of the America’s Cup in 2017, where racing will start with the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifiers on 26th May, 2017, followed by the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Challenger Playoffs, and then the 35th America’s Cup Match, presented by Louis Vuitton, in which the winning Challenger will meet the Defenders, ORACLE TEAM USA, starting on 17th June, 2017.
About the 35th America’s Cup
The America’s Cup is the competition for the oldest trophy in international sport and dates back to 1851. Over that time, teams representing just four nations (the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland) have won the trophy in over 160-years of competition. It is one of the greatest challenges in all of sport.
The defending champion is ORACLE TEAM USA, who first won the America’s Cup in 2010, and successfully defended the title in 2013. Now six teams, including ORACLE TEAM USA, have signed up to take on the challenge again.
